Are we a nation of boring people or are we just lacking in ambition? Following a survey looking for the UK’s most desirable job, nurses, teachers and accountants came out top. Rock star? No sir.

Interestingly, the less educated people are the more they want to be film stars and believe that a fair salary for any job is around £50k a year. This compares with degree educated people who want to be lawyers but fair salary expectations are lower at around £30k a year.

Does our education system breed a lack of ambition perhaps?asks a web survey by TolunaQuick in response to Gary Lineker’s comment that footballers should be paid the same as teachers. It seems it does as the more educated people get the less likely they are to expect a high salary and the more boring they get.

The most desirable job? Teacher and film star are neck and neck both polling 13.95% of the vote each out of 1,868 people. Interestingly teacher is a desirable job across all qualification spectrums.

What jobs are at the bottom of the pile? Religious leader, politician and fire officer rank as the least desirable jobs while pop star is not far behind polling just 4.4& of the vote.

The top 10 most desirable jobs are:

1 = Film star (13.95%)

= Teacher (13.95%)

3.  Lawyer (12.9%)

4.  Nurse (11.65%)

5.  Accountant (9.25%)

6.  Footballer (6.95%)

7.  Journalist (6.8%)

8.  Banker (6.3%)

9.  Police officer (4.5%)

10. Pop star (4.4%)
