With The Brits taking place last night and the film world gearing up for the Oscars this weekend we took the opportunity to ask the Toluna Quick community for their opinions on some of the most talked about aspects of the two awards ceremonies.

We wanted to gauge the appetite for the awards season by asking our 1745 respondents whether they watched the Brits and if they would be tuning into the Oscars. A large 55 per cent of people dismissed both awards ceremonies while around 22 per cent said that they would be watching both.

Last night at the Brits, singer Adele caused some controversy by raising a middle finger to ‘the suits’ for cutting her acceptance speech short in order to keep to the tight television schedule. Opinion was split over whether this was in fact a ‘controversial’ action and asked whether Adele was right to make the gesture, the responses from the Toluna Quick community were as follows:

20.11 per cent – no, a schedule is a schedule

17.19 per cent – yes, it could overrun like the football during penalty shootouts

37.82 per cent – no, it sets a bad example, there were kids watching

24.87 per cent – yes, it was her moment, she deserves more time to speak

The Toluna Quick community see The Artist and War Horse as clear frontrunners for best picture at the Oscars with 37 per cent and 35 per cent of the vote respectively. George Clooney’s The Descendants came in a distant third with 9 per cent.

And finally, pitting the Brits host James Corden against Oscars veteran Billy Crystal, we asked who would come out on top in a fair fight. 62 per cent back Brit Corden while only 38 per cent voted for old favourite Billy Crystal.
